Story of a recipient…

I want to tell you a Good Samaritan story from one of the communities of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America . . .

Tom and Anne (not their real names) loved their home in their PMMA community. They were long-time supporters of their church and other charities, so they quickly added PMMA’s Good Samaritan Program to their list. Tom and Anne’s lives were shaken when Tom became seriously ill. He needed special care, so he had to move from their apartment into the skilled nursing center.

Sadly, within a few months Tom passed away. Anne vowed to continue to advocate for the Good Samaritan Program in Tom’s honor. She believed that “everyone here is important, especially those going through hard times.” She encouraged everyone she knew to give to the program. A year ago Anne’s health started to fail, and she needed more care.

Despite Anne and Tom’s careful financial planning, her funds began to run out. Now the program that she so faithfully supported came to Anne’s aid, she has the peace of mind that she will not have to leave her beloved home. Like Anne, other residents who have exhausted their funds through no fault of their own, don’t have to worry that they’ll be asked to move.

Good Samaritan Program

Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America serves more than 2,300 seniors and their families in our 17 communities across Kansas and Missouri. Each year, we provide more than $5.7 million annually in uncompensated care and charitable relief to more than 290 residents in need, as it is our honor and responsibility. With help from donors, 290 PMMA residents received benevolent care support or healthcare financial assistance because their savings, insurance or Medicaid did not fully cover the expenses of their care.

Likewise, some of our longtime residents in assisted living and independent living residences have depleted their personal assets and request subsidized care.
