Presbyterian Hospice of Mid-America^TM serves the Farmington community

Caring, compassion and dignity are the goals of hospice care. In 2005, Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America started Presbyterian Hospice of Mid-America^TM at our Farmington, Missouri location, to provide a full continuum of services for residents. The organization’s philosophy of the way you want to live carries into these final weeks for our residents and members of the Farmington community-at-large by providing care in the patient’s home.

While most Americans state they would prefer to spend the end of their life at home, many do not access hospice services. Whether due to the difficulty of identifying a person has reached a stage in their illness of six months or less to live, or our desire as human beings to wait until medical knowledge has been exhausted, less than 20% of the population will use hospice services at the end of their life.

In adult care homes, that number drops to less than one percent. Presbyterian Manors’ goal, ultimately, is to change this at least for our residents and the communities we serve. As a hospice, we serve not only the residents of Presbyterian Manor, who call us home, but people in the community who seek hospice care for end-of-life care in their homes.

What is hospice care?

Hospice care is a special way to care for people who are terminally ill, as well as helping their families cope with the impending loss of their loved one. The focus of hospice is to provide the needed support for quality of life and dignity at perhaps the most important milestone of one’s life.

Hospice care seeks to ease the emotional, physical and spiritual pain that may be associated with the last weeks of one’s life. Services of hospice focus on care for the person’s comfort, not cure; with the intention of enabling a hospice patient to make this final life transition in the best manner possible.
