Aberdeen Village’s Spa Experience program, which provides an innovative approach to bathing for Health Care and Memory Support residents, has received a lot of attention lately.
The program was the topic of a Kansas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (KAHSA) workshop at the Village in March 2004, and it received a KAHSA Award of Excellence at the annual awards banquet in April 2004.
The Spa Experience allows residents in the Health Care Center to enjoy a one-of-a-kind bathing atmosphere.
Each resident has the choice of when he or she takes a bath, the time of day, the day of the week and how often. The spas are always warm and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. Residents can listen to music or nature sounds and benefit from aromatherapy.
The Spa Experience can change the way a resident feels. It can lift their spirits and improve their mood. Resident Anna Forte recently moved into the Health Care Center and discovered the benefits of the whirlpool. Ms. Forte also enjoys the fact that she gets to do as much of her own bathing as she can.
“I like that big tub,” Ms. Forte said. “It’s like a pool. I never had a tub like that to take a bath in. I love it.”
As a not-for-profit active living and wellness community operated by Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, Aberdeen Village continues to look for ways to enhance residents’ experience and provide the services and care needed to help them live the way they want to live. We are pleased to receive this recognition for the work that we do and are grateful to our employees who make this kind of innovative service possible.
