28th Annual Art is Ageless Exhibits show talent, diversity of senior artists

By Leslie Chaffin, Corp. Director of Marketing

There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.
~ Sophia Loren

Numerous examples of artists who began, continued or improved their talents later in life, support the philosophy of Art is Ageless--celebrating creativity in the "senior" years. While Art is Ageless artists may not be a Carl Sandburg, Pablo Casals, Grandma Moses, Georgia O'Keefe, or Elizabeth Layton, their artistic expression through many different mediums is no less intriguing and inspirational. The foundation of Art is Ageless™ is to encourage creative expression not only for the satisfaction of accomplishing something new, but for the many benefits artistic endeavors have in one's later years.

Creative expression by people 65 and older in Presbyterian Manor communities and their surrounding areas are on exhibit during August, Artists' Apprciation Month, for the 28th Annual Art is Ageless juried exhibits. Artists could choose to enter in the juried exhibit or to participate in the exhibit only. The call for entries went out in June and works have been arriving at the 17 Manor locations for the exhibits.

Seven entry categories cover fine arts through crafts and display a wide variety of works. With participants ranging in age from 65 well into their 90s, the exhibits are both a recognition of the creativity of elders and an opportunity to show all ages that one can be creative at any stage in life. Winners in each community will be submitted for judging for the Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America's 2009 Art is Ageless calendar and cards later this month. Read more...
