Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America Locations

The first Presbyterian Manor was built in Newton, Kans. in 1949 as a project of the United Presbyterian Foundation of Kansas (UPFK).
17 not-for-profit retirement communities located in Kansas and Missouri.
Our Active Living & Wellness CommunitiesTM for mature adults offer a variety of living options to suit each resident in order to maximize independence while providing the security of home and health services as needed.
Pioneered Alzheimer’s care in Kansas with the first residence specializing in Alzheimer’s/dementia care at Presbyterian Manor of Newton in 1986.
UPFK and Presbyterian Homes of Missouri merge and Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America becomes the umbrella parent organization.
Serving more than 2,100 residents:

Residents in apartment homes, town homes and cottages do not own their residence, residences are owned by Presbyterian Manors, Inc., a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization that is a wholly owned subsidiary.
Residents in apartment homes, town homes and cottages have the choice to rent or pay a deposit at most of our locations. For depositors, a portion of the deposit is non-refundable, and is used to assist with remodeling units when the resident leaves.

Employs more than 1,800 people.

FY04 July 1, 2003 to January 31, 2004 Presbyterian Manors’ 14 Kansas locations have contributed to economy of Kansas with $16.4 million in salaries.
FY03 July 1, 2002 to June 30, 2003 these locations as a system contributed to the economy of Kansas with $30.9 million in salaries.
In smaller, rural communities such as Clay Center and Arkansas City, our Manors are an important part of these communities’ economy; we are a top 10 employer in several Manor cities.

Maintains a Good Samaritan Fund at each Manor/Village and thanks to the contributions of friends and supporters, Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America has not, in its 58-year history ever had to ask a resident to move due to the resident’s financial circumstances.

In FY06 (July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006) we provided more than $4.3 million in care to Presbyterian Manor residents in Kansas and Missouri that was not reimbursed by third party payors (i.e., Medicare, insurance, Medicaid).
In FY06, 45 percent of residents in our health care centers were using Medicaid to pay for their care. Medicaid reimbursement rates do not cover the full cost of providing care.

A board of trustees representing diversified backgrounds and professional interests governs Presbyterian Manors. Our local Manors/Villages have Advisory Committees comprised of community leaders who provide insight and guidance to the needs of the area.

Service to our communities

Following are a few of the ways in which our Presbyterian Manors are making Kansas and Missouri communities a better place to live:

Serving as sites for cultural events
Providing supported employment opportunities for persons with developmental disabilities, high school students, and other similar programs
Serving as sites for community celebrations
Sponsoring memberships in civic organizations and hosting civic organization meetings
Sponsoring community educational events
Employees volunteering their time in the community through chamber involvement, civic organizations, as youth organization leaders and instructors in their fields of expertise
Providing transportation for home-bound citizens
Kansas Department of Aging surveyor training site
Providing free services to their communities
Help support other community charitable organizations through staff and resident time and donations (i.e. participating in the Alzheimer’s Walk)
